Floppy Yorkshire Terrier Ears: Taping VS Bracing

>> Monday, January 31, 2011

Love this method and I highly recomend it! When I purchased my first Biewer Yorkies they were 6 months old already with ears standing. When they shipped from Canada they were so stressed  out that their ears fell. I was devastated. Though I do think floppy ears are adorable I am well aware that floppy ears do not fit in the  Yorkshire Terrier standard. They say to tape before the age of 6 months or it is a lost cause. I don't believe in giving up that easily so I tried taping them and taping and taping and taping.....Many of you reading this who have done this before must know exactly what I am talking about. Tape on the ears is itchy and uncomfortable. I kept these two little girls together and they were always together chewing off each others tape. Every five hours or so I was putting on more tape. After two weeks of this I gave up. So now I brace using the method in this video. The puppies do get a little agitated but I have found that it is not nearly as much and after awhile they just leave it alone. They can not get it off in the same way that they could were there tape used. Makes for a much happier Puppy and a much happier Mommy.
